The desert view from Tolous lodge |
I just want to thank you for the
incredible experience you engineered in the desert last week. Every
aspect of the trip, including the organization, the itinerary,
the scenery, the weather, the people, the food, the camp, the lodge,
the lectures, and the idle conversations were perfect. Thank
you!

Both of us want to thank you for
making our week in Namibia such a memorable one. Although
we're probably not qualified to make comparisons, we would say
that Desert Light must be the best workshop around. It was
truly fantastic and we enjoyed every minute of it. Not only
did we have the opportunity to see and photograph the desert under
such amazing conditions, but we found the lectures and guidance so
very well done, and what about the food? Wow!! All in
all, one can only praise you all for the effort you put into it
and once again thank you very much indeed. It was
inspirational!

I would like to thank each one of you
for an experience of a life time. I came into the desert empty
and with absolutely nothing more to give and left the desert
fulfilled, replete and ready to start again. It filled my soul
and made me realise how insignificant we are and yet we are an
integral part of the whole. There is no right or wrong way.....
just different ways to look at and see things. The desert was
larger than life, overwhelming and will continue to open my
eyes to so much. Thank you all for your nurturing, sharing and
caring and most of all for your 'Generosity of Spirit'. Never
will things look the same way again. I am riding on an
adrenalin wave and I intend the euphoria of the moment to
last.

We have the post-workshop blues big
time! Its three weeks later and all we can think about is the
workshop. We keep going back to our slides in amazement! Did we,
very ordinary photographers, really make such masterpieces! All we
want is to be there - period. To see again for ourselves how that
magical light just lifts the beautiful into the exquisite. To
experience the warmth and companionship of a passion shared. To be
looked after like royalty by a team that has no equal. Nicole,
Willem, Lydia, Nellia, Guy, Jabus, Susan, the Tolous Lodge owners
and staff - we salute you!

"If
you want to join the desertlight photographic workshop do not
expect to climb dune 45 and to have a good rest when you reach the
top because that workshop is not one more guided tour in Namibia.
You might have to experience the dust storm and other uncomfortable
situations but it does not matter as the result is so great. You
really enjoy every minute of the workshop. Lydia, Nicole and Willem
are really professional and they know how to boost your creativity,
your imagination and even your dreams and that really makes the
difference.
Thank you to everybody ! I am ready for another workshop!"

"I
often think of that rare fulfilling joy when you are in the presence
of some wonderful alignment of events. Where the light, the colour,
the shapes, and the balance all interlock so perfectly that I feel
truly overwhelmed by the wonder of it." ---Photographer Charlie
Waite
"It is from our moments of solitude amidst peaceful
surroundings that we draw the strength and understanding to face the
noisy confusion of life." ---Daniel
Last week, when I read these 2 quotes, I thought of my time in the
desert. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I got so much more than I expected.
I just wanted to say a special THANK YOU. My friends think I'm the
best desert photographer, little do they know that with such great
advice, inspiration & enthusiasm, I couldn't take anything but
good photographs (and then again, they haven't seen the others'
work....)

"A
huge thank you to everyone from Desertlight and Tolous for helping
to make my workshop experience such a rewarding one. On both a
photographic and a personal level it was one of the most memorable
of my life due to the welcoming, supportive, creative environment
you presented for all of us. The desert and surrounding
area is such a magical place. I would highly recommend your
workshops to everyone -- it was well worth the journey!"

"The
Desert Light Workshop was a truly awesome experience! The seemingly
effortless flow of lectures, photo shoots, audio-visuals, meals,
camping trip etc was only matched by the beauty of the Namibian
landscape. Your love of and dedication to photography,
together with the hard organizational work of the crew made it
possible for a beginner like me to bring back better pictures than I
could dream of. Thank you very much!"
Christa Laubscher, Stellenbosch, SA |
"My
enormous thanks for one of the most memorable trips I've ever made!
Wow, it was just plain fantastic! My congratulations to you for all
your hard work and brilliant organisation to make our week not only
photographically inspiring, but so comfortable and loads of fun. Most
of all I want to thank you for showing us a part of Namibia that we
would never have seen as casual visitors - sitting by the riverbed
having breakfast and sitting on top of a hill watching the sun set
across miles of magical landscape was altogether unbelievably
wonderful!"
Rosie Jennings, London, UK |
"Susan
and I want to thank you for all of the hard work and time that you
devoted to making our stay and experience in Namibia such a special
one. It was quite obvious that everyone involved had put in a great
deal of time and effort to make the workshop a great success. The
workshop was well planned, inspirational, informative and
productive. Well worth the effort to attend."
Dr Gary McLaughlin, Sacramento, California, USA |
"I
went on the Desert Light workshop to improve my landscape
photography, get one or two good pictures and to see a part of the
world I had never seen. What I got was infinitely more than this.
The lectures, conducted by Willem and Nicole, were excellent.
They conveyed their extensive knowledge, their enthusiasm for the
subject and the surroundings in a is such a way that I not only
improved my photographic abilities but rediscovered creative and
emotional sides to myself. All this would not have been possible
without the rest of the Desert Light Crew who unobtrusively and
tirelessly saw to it that the whole operation functioned smoothly.
Add to this one of the most spectacular settings for photography in
the world and you have a life time experience."
Bernard Seymour Hall, Cape Town, SA |
"The Desert
Light photographic workshop was unforgettable. Really smooth organisation in very trying circumstances in the desert; and our two tutors were excellent in keeping the adrenalin soaring, the learning fun and the enthusiasm rolling. I fell in love with photography all over again.

"Thank
you for taking us on a spectacular journey through the desert. A
great way of developing and improving photographic skills. What a
way for a wife to convert an accompanying husband into a
photographic enthusiast."
